Circular devices that use the concept of centrifugal force can be used in sewage treatment plants to separate liquids from solids. When food products go through a washing process, the water is drained off in one direction while the cleaned foods go another direction. Canned peas and beans are a good example of this type of sieve.
Anyone who has worked in a laboratory knows how important a sieve-like device can be to isolate and study disease organisms and blood cells.
