Effective Pond Care Tips

Having a pond can be a great source of beauty and enjoyment. Keeping a balanced ecosystem is the key to a beautiful pond. Some effective keys include suspended or string algae, biological pond filter and a UVC or ultraviolet clarifier. Here you’ll get a thorough idea on how to keep your pond healthy and charming.

Plants play a very vital role inside a pond. They provide shade and use oxygen. This limits the algae to grow by getting improper oxygen and sunlight. Sea lettuce and water hyacinths plants works effective in pond. They float and multiply rapidly, hence block the algae growth. Lotus and lilies also works well inside pond. You can grow plants in special water baskets with water plant soil.

Fish are believed as natural water cleaner. Having fish in your pond can be a great idea when it comes to maintenance. You need not have to feed them regularly as they eat algae and insects. Fish are delightful to watch and even add beauty to your pond. You can install a bubbling machine into your pond to create oxygen in it.

You can add Bacillus thurengensis (BT) to your pond. This is a Gram-positive, soil-dwelling bacterium, commonly used as a biological pesticide. It will protect your pond from mosquitoes and other insects. The liquid form doesn’t hurt plants and fish. Make sure that the PH level of your pond is not too high or low. You should check with a pH testing strip, once in a month. If the pH level is below 7.0, then it can kill the fish. Adding enzymes can balance the water pH level. During winter, cover your pond so that it does not freeze and the fish are safe.

In addition you can have Ultra Violet sterilizer and Ultra Violet clarifier. The UV sterilizer eliminates pathogens and other bacteria from the pond by sterilizing the water. It also destroys the green pond algae. The UV sterilizer basically kills the existing green algae. It effectively controls pond algae growth and keeps the water clean. But, improper installation of Ultra Violet sterilizer and Ultra Violet clarifier can hamper your pond. It can affect fish, plants, and beneficial bacteria that live in the pond.
